History of North Liberty
The territory we know of as North Liberty today was founded in 1838 by two men named Alonzo Dennison and John Gaylor. At this time, the area was known by several names including North Bend, Big Bottom and Squash Bend. When the city was platted in 1857, it was given the name of North Liberty.
At the time of North Liberty's incorporation in 1913, it had around 190 residents. However, with the construction of several businesses and schools in the city, the population grew to about 800 people by 1967 and over 2,000 people in 1980. Today there are more than 13,000 residents in North Liberty.
